I know it's been awhile since we did a Fashion Friday here. I think I had D.C. summer wardrobe fatigue, but we're going to start remedying that now.
Technically the first day of fall isn't until September 22, but we all know that the passing of Labor Day weekend means that certain items in our closet are retired until next Memorial Day. And along with spending as much time at the pool or the beach as possible, there's also a few things you should do in honor of the end of Fashion Summer this weekend. In other words, it's your last chance to get some final wear out of your favorite summer pieces.
Straw Hats: You're about to have to pack them away until next summer, unless you have a costume party or late summer concert coming up. So find a way to incorporate your straw hats and white summer fedoras this weekend. Throw one on with a sweet sundress or shorts and sandals for a trip to brunch or the farmer's market. Or just add it to your poolside attire.
White Dresses, Shorts and Pants: These items are pretty tricky to pull off in our area post-Labor Day (places like Miami and San Diego obviously have a longer "white season" -- some might even say it's year round), so put them to the front of your closet for this weekend. I started wearing my white dresses mid-week and I'll continue through the weekend. Put on your favorite white shorts outfit for Saturday night, whether you're in Dewey or D.C.
Pool Coverups as Dresses: After this weekend, you'll no longer be able to get away with wearing your favorite pool coverup out to the bar later that night, so get your kicks in while you can. Play up the beachy waves in your hair, dust on some bronzer, add a cute pendant necklace and sandals and enjoy dinner al fresco, pretending you're in Mexico for the weekend.
I know we're all itching to wear those transition pieces we have waiting in the wings of our closet, but come November, you'll be sick of those items, too and missing your favorite summer frock. Give it a good going away party this weekend!
And if you find yourself with some downtime, it's a good opportunity to flip through some of your fall and transition pieces in your closet, to take stock of what you have. If you haven't yet started your fall shopping, now's the time to start thinking about it and I promise to finally have a fall shopping list post next Friday! Hopefully my Blogiversary Giveaway winner, who I contacted separately, can inspire us with their fall shoe purchase.
Until then, enjoy the holiday weekend and treat your closet like it's June 15th for a few more days!
Happy Friday!

Yes goodbye to summer and this is just wonderful post. Thanks so much for the share. Farewell Messages
